I think in American eyes they just get lumped into "those weird foreign religions" without realizing how much we have in common. I knew of them before I think from some architectural photos of their golden temple but never realized how amazing they are. I feel they exemplify the spirit in which Jesus sacrificed himself more than most American Christians do. They are ready to literally put life and limb on the line for the oppressed even if they are not of their religion. Truly they practice what they preach. Which leads to the other reason, they look inward rather than trying to convert everyone by coercion and force. Another example to so many religions that were spread with armies.
