My big fat survival story

body:

While my current primary interest is in protein I couldn't help but post about fat as it has had the most dramatic effect on my athletic life. I was looking at pictures from a surfing photo session taken of me earlier that day and I asked "Who's that fat guy? I didnt see him out in the water" and my lovely girl gently pointed out that it was me. I was in shock, in the photo I was bent over doing a "bottom-turn" and it literally looked like I had basketball stuffed in the front of my wetsuit.

I've always been a fit guy and never saw it coming. Anyway despite the flurry of various exercises, diet changes, supplements, mixes, you name it I tried it, cutting down on fat made the biggest difference in my appearance, physical effectiveness and sense of well-being.

The three things that made the biggest difference were the elimination french fries (and a reduction of fried things), switching from "real milk" as I like to call it to 1% milk, and switching from various candies and fake chocolate to coffee and high cacao % chocolate. Oh yes and a huge one was swapping out my 2500 calorie ice cream shakes that I was consuming regularly to protein shakes. It was really all about finding alternatives, and while it may be hard to find appetizing ones, they are out there. One last one I have to mention was swapping some burgers for turkey&chicken sandwiches that I have developed a special recipe for... best sandwich ever.

I am now close to the best shape of my life and am accomplishing things in my surfing that I've been attempting for over 10 years.
